Sometimes, everything clicks. Like Steve Shelley, Lee Ranaldo, Jim O’Rourke, Kim Gordon, and Thurston Moore sharing a stage. Or like someone taking over the pub in Bonnie Doon Mall, creating an immaculate dive bar vibe, hiring the perfect staff, and making a perfect breakfast.
The Bonnie is divey, but not dirty. In fact, it’s immaculately clean. It’s warm and inviting, with pool tables, VLTs, shuff, and more to entertain their guests. The daytime bartender might be the best, most interesting, and kindest server I’ve ever had. The vibe is so chill.
And the food. The eggs are creamy, savoury, and perfectly cooked. The best I’ve had so far. The potatoes almost give a triple cooked British style chip feel. A cubed cousin to Rosewood’s smashed up fried potatoes. Herbaceous and sharing a stage. And the food. The eggs are creamy, savoury, and perfectly cooked. The best I’ve had so far. The potatoes almost give a triple cooked British style chip feel. A cubed cousin to Rosewood’s smashed up fried potatoes. Herbaceous and salty, I ate every crumb of them. The sausage is a single, high-quality banger. It loses a point for being deep-fried. The bread is also high quality, but you only get one slice. I still don’t really get it. It’s like buying a car and it only has two wheels. Or buying a bike, and it only has one wheel. Or buying a unicycle, but it only has half of a wheel.
This is the best breakfast I’ve had. I can’t wait to try the rest of the menu because the care, thought, and love put into this breakfast is hard to believe.
Also, it’s $9 before noon!
